US bitcoin mining company Riot Blockchain has reportedly made about $9.5m in credits by selling electricity back to the state of Texas. The state’s power grid came under strain during a heatwave in July, which saw demand for energy rise. Riot Blockchain, which operates one of the country’s largest crypto facilities in Colorado, reduced its power usage by about 12,000 MWh, enough to power more than 13,000 homes in Texas for a month. The sale also earned the company a range of other benefits, equivalent to around 439 bitcoins at July’s prices.
