OpenAI has announced, in a live-streamed event, the launch of GPT-4o, a new improved model that is now available to all ChatGPT users, even those who are on the free plan. This is a break from the past when GPT-4 class models were only available to paying subscribers.

“Everybody who has ChatGPT can use it, no matter the plan, for free! Until now, GPT-4 class models have only been accessible to those who pay a monthly fee, ” said Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI.

GPT-4o is a major step forward in the range of AI models provided by OpenAI. Besides, OpenAI also announced the release of a new desktop version of ChatGPT that will be used to make AI more integrated in daily computing tasks. This version will allow the users to interact with ChatGPT more easily, they will be able to ask questions or command tasks by using the keyboard shortcuts.

The desktop app is first available for macOS users, with a Windows version to be released later in this year. This step is anticipated to be useful for a wider audience as it will improve the accessibility and user experience on personal computers.
