Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, published the BTC whitepaper in October 2008, introducing the concept of a decentralized digital currency with a fixed total cap of 21 million tokens. This innovation promised a system where transactions could occur without banks or centralized authorities. At its core was blockchain technology—a distributed ledger maintained by a network of users and miners rather than a single controlling entity. Bitcoin’s Genesis Block On Jan. 3, 2009, Nakamoto mined Bitcoin’s Genesis block, also known as Block 0 or Block 1, which contained only one transaction.
