A highly classified operation of the French elite police successfully rescued David Balland, co-founder of Ledger. Balland, who had been held hostage by kidnappers demanding a €10 million ransom, was rescued after an intense 48-hour pursuit by the French National Gendarmerie’s tactical unit. A number of suspects linked to the abduction were arrested and another mission saw Balland’s partner released unharmed. It began Tuesday when Balland was forcibly seized from his home in the commune of Vierzon, in the Cher department of central France. It’s been alleged that he was thrown into a vehicle by people and taken to an unknown location. Sources quoted by French media said the attackers were using at least two different cars so as to avoid being picked up by police. – Advertisement – Since follow up to the ransom demand Balland’s whereabouts had been traced. All communications connected with the demand had been being monitored by investigators. According to the family, the kidnappers had approached Balland’s relatives and business associates with the demand for the €10 million, in return for his safe release. But, law enforcement officials had kept up with the speed of criminals. The Rescue Operation For Ledger Cofounder Elite forces found Balland alive on Wednesday during a targeted operation in Châteauroux, the capital city of the Indre department. The French security units made a very meticulous intervention and neutralised the captors and secured Balland’s life. Balland was placed under the care of emergency medical services for an assessment and treatment shortly after his rescue. Authorities furthered their investigations to Étampes, a commune near Paris, where Balland’s partner was captive, too.
