Cardano Founder EMURGO Invests in Goodwall’s Network for African Youth
EMURGO is partnering with Goodwall to empower the African Gen Z community.
The partnership will unlock blockchain features for educational opportunities.
African youth is projected to make up 42% of global youth by 2030.
EMURGO is the official commercial arm and a founding member of the Cardano blockchain.
On February 27th, 2023, EMURGO and its regional entity EMURGO Middle East & Africa (EMURGO MEA) announced a strategic partnership and investment with Goodwall, a skills-based social network for young talent.
The EMURGO press release has stated that the partnership is supporting Goodwall’s core mission of leveling the playing field for the global youth by connecting talented youth to “learning and earning” opportunities.
Goodwall’s crossover into Web 3.0 services will be facilitated by EMURGO’s investment and Cardano’s “environmentally-friendly blockchain.”
The co-founder and COO of Goodwall, Omar Bawa, has commented that the partnership is poised to guide the social network in banking the unbanked via joint initiatives.
Social Good Facilitated by Blockchain Tech
Emphasizing the need for this initiative is the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) projections that young Africans are expected to constitute 42% of global youth by 2030.
This estimate has raised concerns about equipping African youth for an “increasingly evolving knowledge economy” to empower the growing youth population with the right opportunities and education.
According to EMURGO, the blockchain features will propel Goodwall’s “sustainable growth” into a Web 3.0 service in the pursuit of empowering the African “Gen Z.”
Empowering African Youth
The initiative is set to focus on creating awareness through joint education initiatives and providing curated Web 3.0 skills programs. The programs will connect Goodwall’s global talent pool to micro-financial services, micropayments for work opportunities, Peer to Peer (P2P) transactions, scholarships, and more via Goodwall’s in-app Web 3.0 wallet.
Additionally, the partnership is set to enhance transparency and accountability for users through on-chain skills certifications and non-fungible token (NFT) skill badges.
The badges will implement decentralized identifiers to strengthen trust and authenticity and for future on-chain voting initiatives, bridging Goodwall’s talented community and the global Cardano community to exchange ideas, information, and resources.
Goodwall supports more than two million talented youths across more than 150 countries. The skills-based social network is already in partnership with UNICEF, Randstad, and SAP to align and propel its ecosystem.
On the Flipside
Although the Cardano blockchain is deemed a more “sustainable” alternative, EMURGO and Goodwall have not disclosed how they plan to bootstrap the resource-heavy use of blockchain technology in the resource-scarce African landscape.
