German shoppers will soon be able to use the PayPal app on their smartphones to pay at any merchant that accepts Mastercard contactless payments. The move is part of PayPal’s broader effort to blend its digital payment tools with Germany’s physical retail landscape. The company says the updated mobile wallet feature will roll out nationwide in the coming weeks on both iOS and Android devices. This launch also represents the global debut of PayPal’s specific contactless mobile wallet functionality. How Tap-to-Pay and History Tracking Work Once users get the latest PayPal app update, they can simply tap their phone at compatible point-of-sale (POS) terminals to make a payment. All these transactions will run through Mastercard’s established contactless system. The updated app will also introduce a combined overview, letting users track both their online and new in-store PayPal purchases together in one history feed. Alongside tap-to-pay, PayPal is extending its popular “Ratenzahlung To Go” installment payment option to German physical stores. Previously only available online, this feature lets consumers split in-store purchase costs into 3, 6, 12, or 24 monthly payments.
