European Central Bank (ECB) policymaker Francois Villeroy de Galhau told the Financial Times on Tuesday that the ECB could still cut rates despite the volatility seen in the oil market, per Reuters. “If we look at the present assessment of markets so far, inflation expectations remain moderate,” Villeroy added. The ECB sets interest rates and manages monetary policy for the region. The ECB primary mandate is to maintain price stability, which means keeping inflation at around 2%.
