a16z Moves $13.75M in Compound to Coinbase — Sell-Off Incoming?
Onchain data reveals that a16z-linked wallets recently transferred 300,000 COMP tokens — valued at roughly $13.75 million — to Coinbase Prime, a move typically seen as a precursor to liquidation.
The firm, an early backer of the Compound protocol, originally received 1 million COMP in 2020, representing 10% of the token’s total supply. Even after the latest transfer, a16z still controls 500,000 COMP, currently worth around $22.9 million.
While Compound remains a core holding, a16z’s broader crypto portfolio is dominated by other assets. Uniswap (UNI) leads the pack with $428 million in value, followed by $10.5 million in Optimism (OP). Surprisingly, Ethereum itself barely features, with just $13,000 allocated on that front.
This movement comes as investors keep a close eye on VC fund activity — especially when large transfers hit centralized exchanges. Whether this signals profit-taking, rebalancing, or broader strategic shifts remains to be seen.
