The heat was scorching at almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the humidity was 50%. All of this in a stadium with absolutely no protection from the sun meant that conditions were tough for both players and spectators alike. You couldn’t help but think that the side from Rio de Janeiro might be able to use the climate to its advantage, but Chelsea were able to neutralise ‘Flu’ for the most part. ‘The Blues’ were wary of the weather. At times Chelsea completely killed the ball after winning back possession instead of instantly attacking. This helped the London-based team get its breath back and slow down the game in the process. Fluminense didn’t help itself with multiple unforced errors in its own half. The Brazilian side couldn’t get into any sort of groove and failed to have sustained periods on the ball. The heat didn’t seem to be a factor in the end and Chelsea were much the superior team.
