The recent 160th Ethereum ACDE conference focused on the changes included in the upcoming Cancún upgrade.

Christine Kim, who wrapped up the session, said that in addition to the prominent EIP-4844 (reducing L2 fees), the developers agreed to incorporate the following EIPs into the upgrade:

EIP-6780 (Modify the functionality of the SELFDESTRUCT opcode, especially in preparation for future use of Verkle trees)

EIP-6475 (Introduce new simple serialization type for optional values to provide better readability and compact serialization)

EIP-1153 (Introduction of transient store opcodes).

Additionally, several EIP proposals are still being considered for inclusion in upgrades, such as EIP-6913, 6493, 4788, 2537, and 5656. On the other hand, some proposals, such as Big EOF and EVMMAX, have been confirmed not to be included in the upgrade.

Considered for inclusion in this upgrade. Following the discussions at the EIP in Cancun, the agenda for the next meeting will focus on progress on EIP-4844.

Earlier, ethereum’s core developers revealed plans to modify the blockchain’s consensus layer in preparation for the upcoming Cancun-Deneb upgrade, which is expected to take place later this year.

The most significant change expected in the Ethereum Cancun-Deneb upgrade is EIP-4844, also known as “proto-danksharding”.

EIP-4844 aims to provide temporary storage and retrieval of off-chain data through Ethereum nodes to meet the data and storage needs of blockchain applications.

If successfully activated, EIP-4844 promises to reduce transaction costs for layer 2 rollup solutions, including Optimism and Arbitrum.
