Sportswear heavyweight Nike has partnered with leading video game developer Electronic Arts (EA) to bring Nike NFTs to EA games. According to Nike, the partnership will see chosen artworks from its .Swoosh platform available in future EA games. Nike intends to use the partnership to create new experiences for its NFT community, a move that comes a few days after sales of its first .Swoosh collection topped $1 million.
Expressing Personal Style Through Play
In an announcement, Nike said that the cooperation between the two firms aims at improving the experience of virtual sports, adding that it gives communities from both sides a chance to showcase “their personal style through play.”
According to Nike Virtual Studios general manager Ron Faris, the two firms are committed to creativity and innovation, something that will help unlock new ways to experience the virtual world for EA Sports and .Swoosh fans. The partnership comes roughly seven months after Nike announced the Web3 platform that aims to connect the physical with the virtual world.
Apart from the Web3 platform Nike also has a subsidiary known as RTFKT that focuses on digital collections. The subsidiary was recently thrown into the limelight after NBA legend LeBron James was seen wearing Nike sneakers that can only be purchased after minting an Ethereum NFT created by RTFKT.
Adidas, Razer and Unity Enter Web3
Other top sneaker manufacturers like Adidas have also expressed interest in digital collections. Apart from EA Sports, other conventional gaming-focused firms such as Razer and Unity have also announced support for Web3 game developers.
With Nike partnering with EA Sports, it’s yet to be seen whether Nike collectibles will become widely adopted items across virtual games.
