Elon Musk Eyes EU Expansion For Grok AI Amid Version 2 Developement
In a bold move to expand the reach of his artificial intelligence venture, xAI, billionaire Elon Musk has set his sights on the European Union (EU) for the deployment of his chatbot, Grok AI. This comes as Musk earlier revealed the development of the legendary Grok 2, which will be the first-of-its-kind AI chatbot.
Elon Musk’s xAI Seeks EU Approval
Grok, a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini AI, has been making waves since its inception. The recent launch of Grok AI version 1.5 garnered immense attention, hinting at Musk’s relentless pursuit of AI advancement. Moreover, Musk has unveiled plans for Grok 2, promising to revolutionize the current AI landscape.
He stated that the upcoming version would outpace all existing AI chatbot models. Additionally, in a recent update on his social media platform, X, Musk revealed his intention to seek EU approval for Grok AI. Responding to a user query about accessing Grok in Europe, Musk stated, “We’re waiting for EU approval.”
Furthermore, the rollout of Grok to India and 46 other countries, including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, and New Zealand, marks a significant step in Musk’s AI ambitions. This strategic move aligns with Musk’s vision to expand Grok’s global footprint by tapping into new markets and catering to a wider audience. However, considering EU’s stringent policies, uncertainty looms over the Grok AI approval.
On the other hand, Musk also hinted at the integration of AI to the popular social media platform, X. He quoted a post by DogeDesigner that highlighted X taking over the mainstream media. In response, Musk wrote, “This momentum will increase dramatically as we integrate AI-generated news trends & search into 𝕏.” Also, it’s safe to say that xAI will play a pivotal role in the integration.

About Grok 1.5 Launch
Elon Musk’s Grok 1.5 has shown proficiency in math with a 50.6% score on the MATH benchmark and 90% on the GSM8K benchmark. Additionally, it also excels in code generation and problem-solving, as seen in its performance on the HumanEval benchmark.
A key feature of Grok 1.5 is its enhanced ability to process long contexts. Hence, it can handle up to 128,000 tokens in its context window, allowing for more comprehensive analysis of complex data sets.
Furthermore, xAI used a custom distributed training framework based on JAX, Rust, and Kubernetes to build Grok 1.5. This infrastructure supports large-scale model training and ensures reliability for handling computational demands. As Grok 1.5 adoption is increasing, attention is turning to Grok 2, which is also preparing for its debut.
