IOTA Outperforms ETH and BTC After Rebase—Co-founder Discusses the Comeback Story
IOTA co-founder Dominik Schiener emphasized the project’s decade-long journey, calling 2025 a pivotal year.
The new Rebased Mainnet featuring MoveVM and 50,000+ TPS enhances IOTA’s positioning among Layer 1s.
During the month that the major cryptocurrencies performed well, IOTA gained in leaps, recording a wondrous increase of 37% in a month. It surpassed Bitcoin (BTC), which rose by 11%, and Ethereum (ETH), which increased by 33% in the last 30 days.
The sudden price momentum follows the relaunch of IOTA’s Rebased Mainnet and renewed focus on scalability and real-world adoption, as mentioned in our previous story.
IOTA Dominik Schiener Comments On Recent Feat
IOTA co-founder Dominik Schiener took to X to reflect on the project’s long journey and its recent resurgence. The number of crypto projects that have been operational for longer than 10 years is relatively small. “IOTA is one of the few,” he wrote.
He noted that they now have one of the most performant and exciting L1s (MoveVM, 50k+ TPS, low to no fees) and one of the leaders as far as real-world adoption is concerned, after a decade of development.
Speaking of the project, he emphasized that 2025 will likely be a pivotal year in the project’s history. He added, “This will turn out to be one of the most pivotal years in our history. Nothing will stop the IOTA train.”
Schiener also offered deeper insight in a recent interview, reflecting on the crypto market’s evolution and IOTA’s place within it. Crypto is a market of stories, and it is very cyclical, he remarked. It is quite conceivable that one wins a single cycle, but it is virtually impossible to win multiple cycles. He declared, “We saw this with Ethereum, we saw this with IOTA.”
He invoked what he called the chances of innovation of 2017, and how, in that phase of development, a lot of things were happening in a million directions. In the case of IOTA, it was a refining process. This was the case of finding the way that really makes sense, he said. The point is, we are truly committed to the long term, and we are dedicated to crafting a concise story.
IOTA Rebased Grabs Spotlight
The newly launched IOTA Rebased Mainnet includes the Move Virtual Machine (MoveVM) and has a performance of more than 50,000 transactions per second. The network’s focus on scalability, negligible fees, and enterprise-level use cases has positioned it uniquely among Layer 1 blockchains, especially in the context of real-world applications such as supply chain, IoT, and digital identity.
As the wider market continues to be in a bullish mood on rising interest by institutions and the clarity about regulation, IOTA is exhibiting signs of a rebound story. The project has a 10-year history with renewed technical innovations, and it is once again gaining its relevance in an ever-busy space.
It remains to be seen whether this rally will extend or not, but as indicated by Schiener, IOTA is in the long game, and it is moving again.
