The measure, introduced in February by Republican Senator Peter Durant, would allow the state to hold Bitcoin and other digital assets in its treasury. In addition, the Massachusetts Treasury would be authorized to invest up to 10% of the Stabilization Fund in cryptocurrency. Political obstacles Despite growing interest in digital assets, the Republican initiative faces long odds in Massachusetts. Democrats hold firm control of both the House and Senate, as well as the governor’s office. All members of the state’s congressional delegation are also Democrats. Durant’s bill mirrors a wave of similar proposals from Republicans in other states. But so far, most have stalled at the committee stage or failed to gain momentum.
