OpenSea Just Acquired Rally to Develop The “Onchain Everything App”
TL;DR
OpenSea has acquired Rally to integrate its expertise in token trading and mobile management, aiming to build a unified app for the entire onchain ecosystem.
Chris Maddern will take over as OpenSea’s CTO after the acquisition, focusing on mobile development and combining NFTs, memecoins, and DeFi in a single interface.
Holders of Rally’s original Floor Genesis NFTs will receive exclusive rewards as part of OpenSea’s new loyalty and migration program.
OpenSea announced the acquisition of Rally, an app specialized in token trading and mobile management for Web3 environments.
The deal also brings Rally’s founders onboard. Chris Maddern will join as OpenSea’s new CTO, while Christine Hall will become part of the company’s leadership team. The agreement aims to speed up the development of a new mobile experience that integrates NFTs, tokens, and decentralized financial products within a single platform.
OpenSea’s main priority is to address one of crypto’s biggest gaps: the lack of solid and accessible mobile products. Maddern pointed out that the industry has long overlooked this critical area, even though most users manage their assets from their phones. Rally’s integration will make it possible to build a mobile app capable of handling NFTs, memecoins, and tokens while managing staking, DeFi, and lending from a single interface.
OpenSea Will Reward Rally’s Most Loyal Users
Another key change is the planned overhaul of OpenSea’s user experience, so NFTs and tokens can be traded and managed in an integrated way. The platform will no longer treat these assets as isolated categories and will focus on developing products that combine digital culture, trading, and financing. The roadmap includes updating token pages to reflect not just prices but also contextual and market information.
The company confirmed that holders of the original Floor Genesis NFTs, launched in Rally’s early days, will receive exclusive rewards as part of a benefit program. These bonuses, called Treasures, will recognize those who supported the project in its early stages and allow them to migrate their perks into the new ecosystem.
This acquisition comes as OpenSea enters a transitional phase. Nadav Hollander, the outgoing CTO, has stepped down to pursue new ventures. Chris Maddern will replace him, leading the next growth cycle with a focus on giving users the tools to move away from centralized exchanges and manage their assets directly onchain
