Pakistan Dedicates 2,000 Megawatts to Bitcoin Mining and AI
The move is part of a wider digital transformation agenda led by the Pakistan Crypto Council, with backing from the Ministry of Finance. Officials say the initiative is designed to monetise unused power resources and attract foreign investment while promoting high-tech innovation.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb expressed optimism, stating that the government anticipates billions in foreign inflows and the creation of new employment opportunities in the tech sector.
“This initiative positions Pakistan as a serious player in digital infrastructure,” Aurangzeb said.
In the first phase, power will be directed to AI infrastructure and BTC mining operations. Reports suggest several international firms have already shown strong interest and visited Pakistan for preliminary discussions.
Bilal Saqib, a prominent figure in the crypto space, highlighted that this policy offers a rare chance for Pakistan to become a regional crypto and AI leader, provided that formal regulations and transparency are enforced.
To boost adoption and attract investors, the Ministry of Finance has introduced tax incentives for AI infrastructure and duty exemptions for Bitcoin miners. In the second phase, miners will gain access to renewable energy sources to ensure long-term sustainability.
With this policy, Pakistan is looking to turn its excess electricity into economic opportunity, while embracing the global shift toward blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies.
