Plonky3 Achieves 2 Million Hashes Per Second, Vitalik Buterin Impressed
The post Plonky3 Achieves 2 Million Hashes Per Second, Vitalik Buterin Impressed appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com.
Plonky3 achieves over 2 million hashes per second with recent optimizations. Vitalik Buterin acknowledges the milestone, playfully suggesting a new challenge. He noted that the speed allows for re-hashing a full Ethereum consensus state in a single processing slot. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin praised Plonky3’s new speed milestone, highlighting its significance for Polygon’s zkEVM ecosystem. Plonky3 is an advanced zero-knowledge (ZK) proof system developed by Polygon Labs. In a post published Wednesday, Polygon network developer Daniel Lubarov revealed that Plonky3 now achieves a performance level of over 2 million hashes per second. This means Plonky3 can re-hash a full Ethereum consensus state within a single processing slot. Buterin Acknowledges Plonky3’s Achievement This development caught the attention of Buterin, who acknowledged the Plonky3 team for their success. He noted that their speed of 2 million hashes per second translates to 62 MB per second in Merkle hashing, which is sufficient to fully re-hash a theoretical maximum-sized Ethereum consensus state within one processing slot. Buterin playfully challenged the team to expand their efforts to include other popular hashing algorithms, such as Blake3 and SHA-256. ok you guys won this game😛 2m hash/sec = 62 MB/sec of merkling is enough to fully re-hash a theoretical-maximum-sized ethereum consensus state within a single slot now do blake3 or sha256 pls — vitalik.eth (@VitalikButerin) October 30, 2024 Enhancements in Memory Efficiency Plonky3’s achievement is not just about speed; it reflects Polygon Labs’ commitment to democratizing ZK technology. This toolkit enables developers to build zkVM and zkEVM networks, facilitating faster, more secure, and scalable blockchain applications. Much of Plonky3’s speed improvement is from enhanced memory management. Lubarov explained that the team focused on reducing unnecessary memory usage and optimizing data caching, allowing Plonky3 to efficiently handle data and achieve over 2 million hashes per second on a…
