The Polygon network has made an official statement revealing that it will work towards building a Polygon 2.0 network. 
According to the official announcement, Polygon intends to structure the 2.0 version as a blueprint for building the Value Layer. 

The Polygon network is taking a significant step towards building what could become a major game changer for Ethereum in the long-term. According to a recent announcement made by Polygon labs, the platform is planning to roll out another version of the existing Ethereum sidechain.

In the announcement, Polygon Labs reveals that members of the Polygon ecosystem would soon be introduced to Polygon 2.0 ; a “value Layer of the Internet.”

Similar to how the internet was created to give global access to any individual looking to create and exchange information, the Value Layer will allow its users to not only create and exchange, but also program data.
With Polygon 2.0 being a set of proposed upgrades that allows the radical reimagining of almost all parts of Polygon, including its protocol structure, tokenomocs and governance, Polygon 2.0 will set the tone for what Value Layer building looks like in the future.

Polygon intends to mimic the Internet’s way of democratizing access to information, by making polygon 2.0 a platform that seeks to democratize access to the global economy.

Polygon 2.0 allows for decentralized finance and digital ownership, as well as new mechanisms for coordination to take place. This new solution that will be built by Polygon will be the missing piece of an interest that does not allow room for gatekeepers, rent-seekers, or even middle-men. Instead, Polygon 2.0 will be centered around serving users.

Members of the Polygon ecosystem are advised to watch out for the coming weeks, which will see Polygon Labs detail every component that will make up Polygon 2.0.

Additionally, Polygon Labs will inform the public about the future of the Polygon POS chain, along with other important parts of the entire Polygon ecosystem. The announcement stated.

Over the coming weeks, we will detail each component of Polygon 2.0, addressing topics like the future of the Polygon PoS chain, the utility and evolution of the Polygon token, and the transition to greater community governance of the protocol and treasury. We will lay out a roadmap for how Polygon will become the Value Layer of the Internet, offering unlimited scalability and unified liquidity via ZK technology.

Ultimately, Polygon 2.0 is described as a network of Zero knowledge-powered Layer 2 chains that are united with a novel cross-chain coordination protocol. The network will allow for countless chains and cross-chain interactions to take place swiftly and safely. The Polygon 2.0 network will expand Ethereum to “become what it was always intended to be.”
