Polygon scores another massive partnership with WWF to use ‘trash NFTs’ for removing real waste
As part of the collaboration, a hybrid metaverse, players can effect change in the real world by removing real trash from the real ocean in any trash NFT they purchase.
According to the announcement, the arctic SaveYour.World is just the beginning of expanding the digital realm to other environments–forests.
SaveYour.World, a collaborative metaverse by WWF Deutschland and Savespecies will now be on the Polygon network. This will make the #OceanDetox project more effective by educating the masses on the crisis of trash and plastics getting into the sea. Also, an approach dubbed “play to donate” has been launched to motivate people to do something about it.
Polygon has committed to exploring blockchain and Web3 to address the most difficult environmental challenges faced by the world.
That served as an encouragement to traditional climate solutions and new dApps alike to explore how the innate powers of blockchain–transparency, and composability–offer the potential to create new climate solutions and elevate existing ones at a critical juncture.

Polygon research to scrutinize emissions
It can be recalled that Polygon Labs commissioned research by scrutinizing and exploring emissions and uncharted territory. This was done by looking at the relationship between Layer 1 and Layer 2 blockchain dynamics. This got the interest of WWF. The report mentions that the decision for WWF to move to the Polygon network got to do with the search for a network with a highly improved sustainability profile.
Polygon Labs offset the entire history of emissions of the public chain last year. And that was just the beginning.
When Ethereum successfully completed the Merge in September, the network’s emissions were cut by 99.9%. What did this mean for the Polygon chain? A significant reduction in its emissions, making a green blockchain greener, and future-proofing it at a time when many species are facing an existential crisis.
The SaveYour.World project has been designed to ensure that experience and access have been democratized in addition to transforming environmental problems into representable pieces of digital art. The report mentions that the Save.YourWorld’s trash whale is made up of 366 discrete NFTs of 50 different types. It is worth noting that each of these NFTs is available for purchase as a donation to ensure that a quantifiable impact on cleaning up the beaches and seas on Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam is done.
One sign in the SaveYour.World states that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050. Another one reads that 100 percent of baby sea turtles have plastic in their stomach.
The traits of each NFT also serve as a commentary on the kind of devastation humans have wrought on the world: this NFT, for instance, is immortal, reflecting the indecently long half-life of human-made plastics. And the problem of plastics and trash is only increasing.
As of now, 2,453.00 kg of plastics has been removed from the ocean in this campaign.
