Solana Mobile Prints Historic Orders Ahead of New Edition Launch
Solana Mobile is gearing towards the launch of its new smartphone after Saga and the number of preorders made in this short time is applaudable.
Record Solana Mobile Phones Pre-Ordered
According to a Jan. 18 X post, about 30,000 units of the new Solana Mobile edition have been paid for on pre-order in less than 48 hours. The blockchain firm sees this milestone as only a small step towards realizing its goal of making Web3.0 solutions accessible globally.
The new phone would have the same feature as Solana Saga; ‘Snapdragon® 8+ Gen 1, 12GB of RAM, 512GM of Flash, 6.67” OLED display’ specifications. It would also retain an integrated crypto wallet, customized Android software, and a “dApp store” for crypto applications. However, it would have a lower price tag compared to Saga. It would also have a noticeable hardware overhaul.

When Saga was initially launched last year, it was pegged at $1,000 but with time, the price was gradually reduced due to stagnancy in sales. Once it was announced that some BONK token giveaway was linked to the purchase of the phone, the entire demand curve changed. There was a sudden demand surge that eventually got the phone sold out in the United States.
The demand boom also led sellers on the e-commerce marketplace eBay to increase the price to more than $3,000. Initially, one of the highest price quotes for the phone with a 512 GB memory space was $2499 but this changed in a short while, as the phones later sold as high as $3,361.
New Saga Version to Address Limitiations?
The plan to launch this new edition hinges on catering to the growing demand for a more affordable Solana Mobile device and also to provide restitution for the flaws identified by renowned tech reviewer and YouTuber Marques Brownlee (MKBHD).
The YouTuber ranked the Solana Saga as the “Worst New Phone of 2023” and the blockchain firm may well be on its way to changing this narrative in 2024 with Solana Mobile 2.0.
In the long run, this may be one of the drivers that triggers a significant change in the Solana ecosystem. No official information has been released about a BONK airdrop in connection to the new phone but, certainly, Solana users and other individuals who are interested in owning their own Solana Mobile will be looking forward to the incentives that would be unraveled in due time.
