On Wednesday, the government led by Prime Minister Petr Fiala survived a vote of no confidence, avoiding its collapse just months before the scheduled elections. In detail, 98 deputies out of 192 present opposed the opposition’s motion, while 94 voted to overthrow the executive. The donation in Bitcoin behind the scandal The political tension erupted after the emergence of a €40 million Bitcoin donation received by the ministry of justice and accepted by the then minister Pavel Blažek. Blažek belonged to the conservative party ODS (Civic Democratic Party) of Fiala. The donation was made by Tomáš Jiřikovský, known to the authorities as a former operator of an illegal darknet market, where drugs were sold. Jiřikovský has served prison sentences for a series of crimes including fraud, drug trafficking, and illegal possession of weapons. The news of the donation and the initiation of an investigation by the police was revealed by the Czech newspaper Deník N.
