It was period highlighted by each of the program’s three national titles in 1996, 2006 and 2008. As bad as it got in the win/loss columns during that three-plus decade stretch was a 6-6 showing under Galen Hall in 1987. That was thanks to four losses in the final five games, including an Aloha Bowl defeat at the hands of Troy Aikman and UCLA. Times have changed. The Gators entered 2025 with five sub-.500 finishes under four coaches in the previous 14 seasons, or since the departure of Urban Meyer. Such mediocrity, or worse, was common in the 1930s and 1940s. The latter decade’s troubles on the gridiron in Gainesville were, like many universities and colleges, largely due to World War II when newspapers and radio stations served as media outlets of the era, a far cry from the social media forums of present day that were scorching Billy Napier’s seat for much of the past two-plus seasons. He was relieved of his duties Sunday. Beginning with Napier, here is a look at the four coaches in the post-Urban Meyer era at UF.
