He worked his way up the ranks for a decade before becoming a Senior Staff Engineering Manager. His responsibilities at Qualcomm included the development of innovative technologies such as operating systems, virtual reality, and augmented reality devices. However, it was at this period that Yakovenko’s interest in blockchain technology began to emerge. Yakovenko left Qualcomm in 2017 to pursue opportunities in blockchain technology. He started looking into ways to get around the limitations of Bitcoin and Ethereum because he was so intrigued by their potential. High transaction fees and long processing times were big issues, and Yakovenko was confident he could find a solution. The Proof-of-History (PoH) consensus mechanism, a unique approach that allowed for faster and more scalable blockchain transactions, was the game changer.
