The paper “Who Wins Ethereum (ETH) Block Building Auctions and Why?” examines factors determining profitability among Ethereum builders. Buterin was interested in Öz’s innovative graph with the inverse hyperbolic sine scale. New Builders Face Market Entry Challenges Öz’s study focuses on the effect of builders’ market share on their profitability. The paper also finds that builders with different order flows and exclusive providers perform better. This makes builders’ orders more diverse and helps them work more effectively in competitive markets. A closer look at the data reveals that the profit margins of the top 10 builders are directly proportional to their market share. Öz stated that builders require clear order flows for profit, a “chicken-and-egg” situation. However, they can only capture such flows if they dominate the market.
