The success of the DC Universe’s first feature film is a promising start for the franchise and the future of Superman, with the potential for sequels and TV spinoffs. Directed and based on a screenplay by Gunn, David Corenswet plays Superman (aka Kal-El and Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent). Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced also star in the remake based on the iconic DC comic book characters. Superman has grossed $122 million domestically during its first weekend, making it the year’s third-largest opening in the U.S. after A Minecraft Movie ($162 million) and Lilo & Stitch ($146 million).
