According to information from blockchain intelligence platform Cryptoquant, released on March 5, XRP funding rates on Binance have plunged into “extreme negative” zones. This development has occurred while XRP has been consolidating within the $1.35 to $1.50 corridor.

When funding rates turn negative, it indicates that the majority of derivatives market participants hold short positions. These short-sellers must pay fees to keep their positions open. Should XRP’s price begin climbing, these traders could face pressure to close their positions by buying back the asset.

This forced liquidation activity can accelerate price movements upward. Cryptoquant characterized this dynamic as a “rubber band” phenomenon that occurs when market positioning becomes excessively skewed in one direction.

“Looking at historical data, periods where funding rates on Binance reach extreme negative levels have often been followed by short-term rebounds or corrective rallies in XRP,” Cryptoquant noted.

Jonatan Randin, senior market analyst at PrimeXBT, outlined two distinct possibilities for where XRP might trade by the conclusion of 2026.

Under bullish conditions—assuming cryptocurrency markets find stability and investor risk appetite strengthens—Randin anticipates XRP could revisit the $3 level. This target aligns with resistance zones established during the 2025 market cycle peaks.

Conversely, in a bearish scenario where Bitcoin faces sustained downward pressure and overall market sentiment deteriorates, XRP might decline toward its 2024 trading range near $0.65.
