The crypto community has welcomed the entry of Activision Blizzard’s COO Daniel Alegre to lead Bored Ape creator Yuga Labs. Alegre will be replacing Nicole Muniz as the CEO next year having served his current company for around three years. Most in the NFT, Web 3.0 and Metaverse space hailed the move as a win for the entire industry since Activision Blizzard is a gaming heavyweight responsible for popular titles such as Call of Duty and Diablo.
A Positive Signal
Immutable’s VP Andrew Soro said that Alegre’s shift from conventional gaming to the blockchain space validates the space, while Andrew Steinwold, an NFT diehard, described the move as a “positive signal” for the entire crypto environment:

Some of those welcoming Alegre described the Web 3.0 world as a “wonderful space with lots of love, knowledge and opportunities to grow.”
Yuga Labs Building an Interoperable Metaverse
Yuga Labs said that Alegre’s skills align with the company’s push to create a completely “interoperable metaverse.” His skills span from entertainment to e-commerce. After exiting as CEO, Muniz will keep his former roles as an advisor and a partner.
According to the Activision Blizzard COO, Yuga Labs’ current positioning has the ability to provide clarity on what the metaverse is by giving control to those who interact with such platforms.
The appointment of Alegre comes a month after the Bored Ape creator acquired NFT artist Beeple’s company, which has an NFT game. It also comes at a time when Yuga Labs is working on a game-themed metaverse platform known as Otherside, showing the company’s continued efforts to lead in the Web 3.0 and metaverse worlds.
