Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has been cleared by a French court to leave the country for 14 days starting July 10.

Durov is currently facing charges related to the misuse of the Telegram platform, which authorities claim is being used for illegal activities, and he could face up to 10 years in prison if he is found guilty. 

Telegram’s founder Pavel Durov has been granted temporary permission to leave France, allowing him to travel outside the country for a short period of time. This new development comes amid the current attention that has been drawn to his movement and legal status in Europe. 

While the full details about the purpose of his travel are still limited, the approval marks a notable moment for the Telegram founder, who has not been seen in the public spotlight for a while.

On the 19th of June, a local French news outlet reported that Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, was granted a 14-day freedom out of France by the court. From the 10th of July, he would be allowed to travel to Dubai, where Telegram is officially based. The court permission comes after he was denied a request in May to attend a major event in Oslo, Norway, where he ended up speaking remotely. 

This is not the first time Durov is granted permission to leave France. Earlier in March and April, he received approval to make a temporary trip to Dubai.

As previously recorded by Tronweekly, the reason for Pavel Durov’s arrest is due to the claims tied to how Telegram is being used. According to authorities, it gives users access to illegal activities, hate speech, child abuse content, and criminal transactions. 

Critics believe Telegram has become a hub for fraud, drug trade, and even terrorism-related messages. As of the time of writing, the founder is still facing charges, and if the charges are confirmed, Durov could face up to 10 years in jail.

Since the beginning of his legal case, many eyes have looked towards his directions and also the final decision of the court. The recent travel allowance is seen by many as a positive step in the ongoing situation.
